From the June 10th bulletin:
Dear Holy Cross Family, Friends, and Visitors,
Some of you might already be aware that I am serving as a
Director of Parish Music Intern at Holy Cross this summer. I would like to take this opportunity to tell
you a little bit about myself and what I will be doing this summer. My family are members here and many of you
might know my mom, Karlee, who is one of the church secretaries. I grew up here and graduated in 2008 from ThunderRidge
High School, just up the street. In 2010
after two years at New Mexico Tech, I transferred to Concordia University,
Nebraska, to pursue a degree in church music.
I will be a fifth-year senior this coming fall and will be graduating in
May with a B. Mus. in Parish Music-Organ and a B.S. in Mathematics.
In order to fulfill one of my general education classes, I
am taking an online class from Concordia titled “Leadership Lab.” Part of this class is a comprehensive
community service or career-based project that allows me to learn more about
how to be a servant leader and gives me the opportunity to apply some of the
principles I am learning in class. I
will be working closely with Kim and the Worship Committee to learn about
service planning, organizing the choral music library, playing the organ for worship
services, writing informational bulletin inserts, and working with our newly
formed handbell choir and small vocal ensembles to prepare special music for
services. This summer will provide me
with an amazing opportunity to apply many of the music skills I have learned in
the classroom and to grow as a servant leader through my interactions as a
church musician. If you have any
questions, comments, or suggestions, please let me know. I look forward to sharing what I know and I
would love to learn from you.
Kristen
